WINTER

Winter on the steppe reaches forty below. The goats answer with an underlayer finer than anything a mill can invent, combed away by hand each spring, never shorn.

THE HERDS

Thirty million more animals than people. Cashmere goats, yaks on the high plateau, sheep on the open grass, living outdoors all year with families who have herded this land for a thousand years.

THE RIDERS

Mongolia grew up on horseback. Children ride before they write; eagles hunt from the crook of an arm. The galloping rider woven into every WANLI piece is not a logo. It is a memory.

The fiber never leaves the country. It is washed, spun, dyed and knitted in Mongolia, by people whose grandmothers did the same. What flies out is a finished piece, not a raw material.
